What is the LLR Knowing Me tool?

The LLR Knowing Me neurodevelopmental profiling tool has been developed by specialist teachers, health professionals and parent carer forums.

The tool supports early help and aims to move away from a “wait to fail” approach. It can be used before a child or young person has a formal diagnosis.

It brings together the views of the child or young person, their parent/carer and their school or setting. The tool creates a visual profile showing strengths and areas where support may be needed.

This profile can help with planning support, making reasonable adjustments, using helpful strategies and signposting to local services. It may also support referrals, where this is needed.

How should the tool be used?

LLR Knowing Me should be completed as part of a shared conversation, led by a trained professional. This could be during a Team Around the Child discussion or an Assess, Plan, Do, Review meeting.

It should be used when a child or young person is showing signs, behaviours or needs that may be linked to neurodevelopmental differences.

The tool should not be completed by one person on their own. It works best when the child or young person, their family and the people who know them are involved.

Important information

LLR Knowing Me is currently being piloted with a small number of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland schools.

The tool does not give a diagnosis, nor does it replace health, education or neurodevelopmental assessment pathways. It is designed to support earlier conversations, better understanding and needs-led support. Where needed, it may also help identify next steps, including referrals or requests for further advice.
